Barcelona Open 2021, an ATP 500 event will commence from April 19 with some of the finest players being a part of the event. The tournament was canceled last season owing to the covid-19 pandemic. Dominic Thiem is the defending champion in Barcelona, but has decided to skip the event due to an injury.

Rafael Nadal has lifted the title in Barcelona for a record 11 times, with the last one coming in 2018 when he defeated Stefanos Tsitispas in the finals. The Spaniard will hope to claim his first title of the season in Barcelona next week, after he suffered a shocking quarterfinal loss against Andrey Rublev at the Monte Carlo Masters.

Rafael Nadal is the top seed at the Barcelona Open 2021, after Daniil Medvedev tested positive for covid-19 last week. The Spaniard has an opportunity to surpass the Russian and reclaim his world number two rankings, if he has a good run in Barcelona. Stefanos Tsitsipas is the second seed, whereas, Andrey Rublev is seeded third.

Diego Schwartzman who had an incredible clay court season last year is seeded fourth, and Roberto Bautista Agut is the fifth seed. Another Spaniard, Pablo Carreno Busta is among the top ten seeds. Felix Auger-Aliassime is the tenth seed coming into the tournament, and he will hope to improve his performances on clay courts this season. The Canadian appointed Toni Nadal as his coach last week, and will look to benefit from Nadal’s experience.

Denis Shapovalov, David Goffin and Fabio Fognini are some of the other big names at the Barcelona Open 2021. Kei Nishikori who has won consecutive titles in Barcelona in 2014 and 2015, is unseeded this year.
