The Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has blamed the VAR for preferring a similar team as he implied the framework favoured the La Liga title leaders Real Madrid.

The official offered the expression following Barca’s 4-1 triumph over Villarreal. The Catalans are placed 2nd on the league table behind Madrid with four games still to play.

On Sunday, Bartomeu alluded to watching Madrid’s 1-0 triumph over Athletic Club in San Mames before uncovering his disappointment at the choices made by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).

In their last game, Real Madrid claimed a 1-0 victory after a tight game against Bilbao. Sergio Ramos goal broke the dead-lock as the Madrid side were given 76th minute penalty after the ref saw the VAR pitch-side screen.

“I watched San Mames match until almost the end of the second half,” Bartomeu said after Barca’s victory. “I feel bad because we have the best league in the world and VAR after coronavirus isn’t fair.” – Bartomeu said.

“It has changed some results and always favours the same team.” – he said.

Barcelona were leading with 2 points before the restart of the league. Since the restart, Madrid have won all their 7 games pushing themselves 4 points clear of the Catalan club.

While Barcelona lost 6 points against Sevilla, Celta Vigo and Atletico Madrid as they drew against all of them.

Barca’s triumph against fifth-set Villarreal was a constructive exhibition. Lionel Messi’s eighteenth and nineteenth helps breaking his own record for most assists in a La Liga season.

Barcelona will play against Espanyol at Camp Nou in their next La Liga game on 9th of July.
