In an electrifying turn of events, the college basketball world is buzzing with the fiery news that Bob Huggins, the iconic and tenacious head coach of West Virginia University’s men’s basketball team, is fighting tooth and nail to reclaim his throne. Huggins now stands defiant, declaring that he never resigned following a DUI arrest. The university had appointed longtime assistant Josh Eiler as interim coach. The university said it would not reinstate Huggins and would defend itself against any “spurious allegations.”

The letter, a clarion call to battle, asserts that Huggins never tendered his resignation and challenges the university to rectify what he perceives as a “grave injustice.” The fiery words of Huggins’ attorney echo through the halls of the college basketball landscape, leaving spectators on the edge of their seats, eagerly awaiting the outcome of this high-stakes drama.

Why and how did Bob Huggins resign?

According to reports, Bob’s attorney David A. Campbell claims that Bob’s wife sent the letter of resignation released by the university, and Bob never formally resigned from the job which is their ground for the lawsuit against WVU. “The conflicting communications and correspondence from various counsel on Mr. Huggins’s behalf leave the University unclear as to its next steps,” the vice president and general counsel for WVU, Stephanie D. Taylor, said in a letter to Huggins.

Accordingly, the attorney representing Bob also said that their goal is not to fight a legal battle but to revert an injustice done to the Employment agreement. Huggins was charged under a drunk and driving case in Pittsburgh on June 16. A breath test also proved that his alcohol levels exceeded the permissible limit. Huggins’ contract requires that a written notice by registered or certified mail be sent in order to make the resignation valid, is what Campbell claims.

The 69-year-old Huggins was the third-most successful coach of all time in Division I. He trails only Mike Krzyzewski of Duke and Jim Boeheim of Syracuse, both of whom are retired. As the story unfolds and much remains to be known, Bob Huggins sure was the face of WVU as many players have already transferred and those who did not until now are looking for their next destination.
