Ace Indian batter Jemimah Rodrigues broke down, after helping her side triumph against Australia in the second semi-final of the ongoing 2025 Women’s World Cup. Rodrigues scored an unbeaten 127 runs, to take the Women in Blue over the line in a record run-chase.
India turned the odds around, beating defending Women’s CWC champions Australia by five wickets, to seal a place in the final for the third time. At the DY Patil Stadium, Australia opted to bat first, putting up a massive total of 338 runs, guided by Phoebe Litchfield’s 119-run innings. The hosts were already missing out on the services of in-form opener Pratika Rawal, with Shafali Verma stepping in as a replacement.
The Women in Blue struggled after losing the wickets of Verma and vice-captain Smriti Mandhana early on, before Jemimah Rodrigues guided the comeback. She completed her third ODI hundred off 115 balls, finishing with an unbeaten 127 off 134 balls.
Rodrigues kept her nerve till the end, in spite of her 167-run third-wicket partnership with captain Harmanpreet Kaur coming to an end in the 36th over, and with almost 100 runs needed to win at the time.

Rodrigues also opened up about her struggles with mental health and anxiety, after she was omitted from the playing XI for the group stage encounter against England. She admitted suffering from anxiety in the early stages of the World Cup, and shared that she would often cry with her mother on call.
Rodrigues stated that she could overcome all of it from the support she received from her family and teammates Arundhati Reddy, Smriti Mandhana and Radha Yadav. Rodrigues said in the post-match presentation ceremony:
I’ve cried almost every day through this tour. I wasn’t doing well mentally, going through anxiety… It was a challenge for me. I just had to show up every day and God carried me through.
Furthermore, Rodrigues also mentioned ‘God’ and the ‘Bible’ as her source of encouragement throughout the innings. India’s record-breaking win over not only scripted history, but also strengthened the team’s chances of securing the World Cup title for the first time.
Jemimah Rodrigues’ historic 127*: The records broken by her in World Cup semi-final thriller
Jemimah Rodrigues scored a remarkable hundred in India Women’s historic semi-final victory over Australia, breaking several records. The 25-year-old was surprisingly promoted to bat up at number three, and she repaid the faith by playing with incredible composure.

The unbeaten 127 runs scored by her now stands as the highest individual score for an Indian Women’s national team player in an ODI run-chase, surpassing the 125 runs scored by Smriti Mandhana in an ODI against Australia, last month. Rodrigues’ hundred is also the highest by any Indian player in a successful run-chase, overtaking Mandhana’s record of an unbeaten 106 runs against the West Indies in 2017.
Rodrigues also became the second batter from India to score a hundred in a World Cup knock-out match. Not only did she break these individual records, but the Mumbai-born batter also shared the honors with her semi-final batting partner, skipper Harmanpreet Kaur. The duo forged a 167-run stand, which became the highest-ever partnership against Australia in a Women’s World Cup match.
Kaur supported Rodrigues from the other end, scoring a much-needed 89 runs off 88 deliveries, with the help of ten fours and two sixes. Meanwhile, centurion Rodrigues is now placed among the top run-getters in the tournament, having scored 268 runs in six innings at an average of 67.
