American 400m hurdler, Benjamin Rai will be a fatal threat in his first Olympics in Tokyo. The NCAA star swiftly became one of the prominent names in the 400m hurdles circuit. With his personal best time of 46.83 seconds set at the US Trials has made him the third fastest man ever in the 400m hurdles.

The young man didn’t waste any time before proving himself to be one of the greatest 400m hurdlers ever. At the Tokyo Olympics, he ran the final neck-to-neck with Karsten Warholm. Such was the manner of their fierce competition that both of them ended up breaking Warholm’s previous world record of 46.70 seconds set just a month ago. Benjamin Rai excelled in the 400m hurdles event since high school becoming 2015 New Balance Outdoor 400m hurdles champion. His progress continued in his college, University of Southern Carolina. He became a 3-time NCAA division 1 track champion earning 8 NCAA Division 1 All-America honours, 3 Pac-12 Conference titles and 1 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation title as a college student athlete.

In college he ran for the UCLA Bruins and USC Trojans, where in early 2018 he was part of the team that set the world best time in the indoor 4 × 400 m relay with a time of 3:00.77. At the time, his relay split time of 44.35 s was the fastest ever recorded in an indoor race.

In June in the same year, he helped set a NCAA outdoor record in the same event and ran what was at the time the second fastest 400 m hurdles race of all-time in 47.02 seconds.

However, the young chap was yet to show the world what he was made of. Rai ran a nail-biting neck-to-neck 400m hurdles final at the Tokyo Olympics alongside Karsten Warholm. Their intense competition led to both of them breaking Warholm’s previous world record of 46.70 seconds set just a month ago. Rai clinched the silver medal with a scorching run of 46.17 seconds.

Benjamin Rai won the silver medal in the 400m hurdles and 4x400m relay at the 2019 Doha World Championships. He also has brought home top medals in 400m run. He bagged a silver medal in the 2015 U-20 Carifta Games. The speedster has won multiple Diamond League meets and one World Indoor tour meet.
