Real Madrid Real Madrid: Karim Benzema, "Europe's most underrated ...

Karim Benzema is being hailed as club’s leader this season. Benzema has scored 26 goals in 41 appearances across all competitions for Real Madrid. Benzema was Real Madrid’s key man this season as the striker helped the club clinch their 34th title this season.

The striker is fifth in the Madrid’s all-time scoring list with 248 goals in 512 appearances for the club .Real Madrid bought Benzema for €30 million (£27m/$34m) from Lyon in 2009.

Govou Benzema’s former teammate compared Benzema to Theiry Henry. Govou said “I think he has largely the level of Thierry. Thierry really impressed me because he was not only a fast player but he had the ball. But Karim is more complete. He also has a kind of presence because he is smaller and less athletic. Karim has always been a top player. If you love football, it’s impossible not to love him.”

On Benzema’s latest season at the Bernabeu, Govou responded: “I’m not surprised. I always thought he was one of the best European strikers. He had small difficulties at the start at Real because he had to win. But he has taken on an incredible dimension over the years” later added Govou.

Since Ronaldo’s departure Benzema’s role has become more pivitol for the club. Benzema and Real Madrid will try to progress further in the champion’s league .Despite a 2-1 deficit against England’s Manchester city.

And a little more after the departure of [Cristiano] Ronaldo. He has new responsibilities, he’s a real leader.” Said Benzema’s former teammate.
