Bianca Andreescu shot to instant fame by winning the US Open in 2019. The Canadian who was only only nineteen back then beat Serena Williams in the Final. A straight sets win 6-3 7-5. But since then injuries have plagued her endlessly, the most chronic of which has been her knee injury.
She managed a full comeback at the Miami Open 2021, but there too she withdrew(injury) while trailing 6-3 4-0 to Ash Barty in the Final. The ankle injury that she suffered was not a very serious one and she was set to begin her clay court season at the Madrid Open beginning on April 30, but unfortunately she tested positive for Covid and will have to wait some more before she can play on court.
Andreescu was initially scheduled to play in the Italian Open, but now those plans are up in the air as well, and will depend on when she recovers completely from Covid.
Bianca Andreescu has confirmed participation for Strasbourg Open ahead of French Open
Internationaux de Strasbourg is a WTA 250 event held in France. Due to the COVID-19 surge in the country, the tournament was pushed back by one week. Consequently, the competition will start on the 22nd of May and run until the 29th. Right now Strasbourg looks like the perfect tournament to warm up on clay before the French Open.
Bianca Andreescu has confirmed she will compete there and will lead a field that includes Caroline Garcia, 2020 runner-up Elena Rybakina, and American teenager Coco Gauff. Andreescu is the only Top 10 player in the 48 players field. Strasbourg will be followed by the clay court season finale, the French Open 2021, which starts on the 30th of May and will end on the 13th of June.
