Big Bash League: WATCH – AJ Tye denies James Vince a century by bowling a wide to give winning runs to Sydney Sixers

Sydney Sixers and Perth Scorchers played in the qualifier of the Big Bash League (BBL) with the former coming up trumps. The first and second placed teams of the league stage met in the clash for a spot in the final and in the end, what promised to be a thrilling contest ended up as a no-contest. On a slightly two-paced wicket at the Manuka Oval, Perth won the toss and chose to bat.

Spurred by Josh Inglis‘ 69-run knock, the Scorchers put up a fighting total of 167/6. Ben Dwarshius picked up two wickets while the others chipped in with a wicket each. In the chase, the Sixers ensured it was all over in 17 overs thanks to fantastic knocks from openers Josh Philippe and James Vince. They only lost 1 wicket in the end and eased to a facile win.

AJ Tye bowls a wide to frustrate Vince

In the chase, Philippe and Vince got the Sixers off to a rollicking start as they raced to 92 in 9 overs when the former lost his wicket for 45. Daniel Hughes and Philippe then ensured there were no jitters by taking their side home. Vince ended on 98* while Hughes finished on 21*.

In the end with one required for the Sixers to win, Scorchers’ AJ Tye came on to bowl with Vince batting on 98* and looking all set to finish with a hundred. However, the Aussie pacer bowled a high delivery that went way over the batsman’s head which was rightly signaled a wide by the umpire thereby leading to Vince being stranded on 98 runs.
