West Indies’ Andre Fletcher who appears for the Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League pulled off two stunning catches to win an encounter against the Hobart Hurricanes for his team. Earlier, put in to bat, the Stars got to a good score of 183 thanks to Marcus Stoinis’ knock of 97 runs off 55 balls. The opener was unlucky to miss out on what would have been a well-deserved century.
Much like Stoinis, the opener for the Hurricanes, Ben McDermott came out all guns blazing and was threatening to take the game away from the Stars. However, he didn’t get the support needed to take his side past the line. And it was Andre Fletcher and his stunning catches on the boundary to dismiss Colin Ingram and McDermott that sealed a win for Melbourne at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart.
Watch – Andre Fletcher takes two stunners
With the match heading towards a tense finish and the well-set McDermott at the crease along with Ingram, Billy Stanlake came on to bowl the 17th over for his side. Just as Ingram started to cut loose and take on the bowlers, his stay was cut short by a stunning grab from Fletcher. The elated West Indian started to show off his dance moves on the ground to celebrate.
He then followed it up with the match-clinching catch – that of Ben McDermott. With 21 needed from 7 balls, McDermott fiercely powered a wide full-toss only to find a leaping Fletcher on the fence who once again jived to celebrate. The Stars eventually won the match by 10 runs and apart from Marcus Stoinis’ innings, it was Andre Fletcher’s catches which were instrumental in ensuring the same.
