Big3 join the #BlackOutTuesday Campaign against Racism

Big 3 of tennis (Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer) were among the other players who joined the #BlackOutTuesday campaign against racial injustice.

This protest was a retaliation to George Floyd’s death by a police officer in Minneapolis.

World number 1 Novak Djokovic has posted a photo in his official Twitter account and Instagram pages with the message “Black Lives Matters”. This was joined by Federer, Nadal with other tennis players and their fans too.

A maximum number of Tennis players like Grand Slam winner Maria Sharapova, Petra Kvitova, and Stan Wawrinka were among other players who are supporting this campaign.

African-American teenage Coco Gough and Japan’s Naomi Osaka have also expressed their anger over Floyd’s death. The 16 years old Gauff commented on Federer’s Instagram post that read, “Click the link in my bio to get resources on HOW YOU CAN HELP! THANK YOU.”

Osaka said people should doing more than posting “the black square”.

“I’m torn between roasting people for only posting the black square this entire week … or accepting that they could’ve posted nothing at all so I should deal with this bare minimum bread crumb they have given,” she posted on Twitter.

The United States Tennis Association (USTA) posted a black screen shot on the social media accounts and also wrote the comments against “Racism”.

The organiser of the US Open Grand Slam said it was “extremely disappointed, angry, and heartbroken”  at the hardship faced by the Communities of Colours in the United States.

“The African-American community is an integral part of our tennis family and the USTA stands unwaveringly against racism and injustice of any kind,” it added.
