Anthony Joshua will be taking on, probably the most technically gifted opponent he has ever faced in Ukraine’s Oleksandr Usyk. The fight will be taking place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on the 25th of September. The fight will be for 12 rounds, and will see Joshua defending his WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and IBO heavyweight titles.
With the fight inching closer, Anthony Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn talked about Oleksandr Usyk’s mind, which he believed is the Ukrainian’s strongest weapon. However, the CEO of Matchroom Boxing believed that Joshua will get the job done with his brutality.
“It’s a great battle of minds as well” – Eddie Hearn on Anthony Joshua vs Oleksandr Usyk
Eddie Hearn was quoted as saying, “It’s a great battle of minds as well. One thing that is so scary about Usyk is his mind, and his ability to work an opponent, and to out think them. But AJ wants to show his skill in this fight, as well as the brutality. I just hope to see a little bit more of the brutality.”
Usyk is coming off a unanimous decision win over Dereck Chisora in October 2020, that saw him win the WBO Inter-continental heavyweight title, in only his second fight in the division. Prior to that he had dominated the cruiserweight division to its entirety, claiming all the titles ever possible in the division.
Joshua, on the other hand, is coming off a TKO win over Kurat Pulev in December 2020. He knocked the Bulgarian out in the ninth round to successfully retain his WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and IBO heavyweight titles. AJ will be hoping to see of Usyk, and set up a potential clash against Tyson Fury for the undisputed heavyweight championship.
