Floyd Mayweather feels the quality of boxing as a sport is decreasing
Recently, while talking to Fight Hype, “Money” said that he feels that boxing as a sport is watering down. The reason, according to him, is the inclusion of new interim belts.
“If you look nowadays in the top 10, everybody’s got a belt now. I never won an interim belt. There are too many belts in the sport of boxing. So boxing is really watered down now. Everybody is a champion.” Said Mayweather.
This statement drew mixed reactions from the fans. Many stated that even though there are complications regarding the interim title many fighters have unified their belts. But, Mayweather’s argument can’t be denied since the no titles have certainly increased when compared to his peak period of fighting and now. This has resulted in lowering the interest of fight fans in many belts as well.
The only way to deal with it is by boxing organisations coming together to sort out the increasing number of belts. But, there is be a possibility that fight fans might lose interest in watching non-title fight. So, let’s see if boxing entities makes it happen or not.
