George Kambosos Jr. has made his country, Australia, proud at the international stage with a split decision victory over Teofimo Lopez in a nail-biting bout. The match took place in October of 2021 in a jam-packed arena in Miami, Florida.
The IBF had instructed Lopez to defend his unified lightweight championship belts against George Kambosos Jr., the mandatory challenger. Kambosos easily won the match to snatch the title from Lopez’s possession. He is currently the world lightweight champion and he was given a hero’s welcome in his homeland.
George Kambosos Jr. was born and brought up in Australia with his origins going back to Greece. His ancestors immigrated from Sparta, Greece to Sydney long ago, and George has since been an Australian citizen. He has a stainless record of 100% wins in his career. He won all 20 of his matches out of which 10 were via knockout. Desperate to extend his win streak, Kambosos called out boxer Devin Haney for a fight, saying, ” Haney, Lomachenko, Tank, Garcia???? Whose NEXT!!! I want them all 🏟🇦🇺 Who do the great fans want to see me defend my crown against in 2022.”
“I will defend my crown against anybody,” says the confident George Kambosos Jr
George Kambosos Jr. is very confident about his skills and talent and thinks that he can totally defend his title against anyone. Responding to his call out, Devin Haney said, “u got the right one first… don’t even know why you’re still questioning it.”
Kambosos Jr. has always wanted to fight Devin Haney and also asked him to sell his jewelry to find funds for the match. In an earlier dated tweet, Kambosos Jr. says, “You and your team know exactly how to make it happen, maybe sell some of your jewelry to help with that 😉 You don’t have to go to Jupiter brother just 8000+ miles across the pacific, down under!!!”
