India are fresh off a stunning series win against Australia in Australia and the players have been receiving a hero’s welcome in their respective hometowns. The Indians battled injuries, the loss of their captain, quarantine issues, racial abuse and a plethora of such problems to rise over them and come up trumps in adversity. A lot of credit has been given to their stand-in skipper Ajinkya Rahane who led from the front.
During usual skipper Virat Kohli’s departure on paternity leave, India found themselves 1-0 after a shocking collapse in the first Test at the Adelaide Oval. However, Ajinkya Rahane was sublime with his captaincy as India fashioned an extraordinary comeback to seal an improbable series win. Soon after the series, debates and discussions have begun as to whether Kohli should continue as the captain or Rahane should take over.
‘Virat Kohli leads from the front’ – Brad Hogg
Former Australian spinner Brad Hogg spoke on his YouTube channel today about the discussions surrounding India’s Test captaincy and stated that Kohli must continue. “He (Virat Kohli) bats better when he is the captain. I think if you change it, it would destroy the culture of that Indian team. It might affect Kohli’s batting. He wouldn’t want it to happen, but it will happen,” he said.
“Yes, Ajinkya Rahane has done a fantastic job in the last three Test matches in Australia. He is cool, calm, collective. He is quite decisive, and he doesn’t get agitated. He is a fantastic leader. But I will leave him as vice-captain because I think Virat Kohli leads from the front,” Hogg further said.
Virat Kohli is meanwhile back in India’s squad for the first two Tests against England as captain.
