Shedeur Sanders was a lock for the New York Giants ahead of the 2025 NFL draft. Brian Daboll took great interest in the Colorado graduate, who completed 74% of his passes and 37 touchdowns in his final year of college football.
The talk of the Giants taking Sanders third overall after cameras caught Daboll dapping with Sanders at the East-West Shrine Bowl. Even Shedeur’s Hall of Fame father, Deion Sanders, was on board to see his son play for the G-Men.
Sanders increased the heartbeats of Giants fans by playing catch with star receiver Malik Nabers on the streets of the Big Apple. His NFL place was written in the stars until it wasn’t.
As draft day approached, reports surfaced that Daboll no longer wanted to work with the 23-year-old. Sanders allegedly left a bad impression on the Giants’ head coach during a special visit to the facility for a one-on-one interview.
NFL Hall of Fame tight end and good friend of coach Prime, Shannon Sharpe, discussed the allegations on his Nightcap podcast with co-host and former NFL wide receiver Chad Johnson.
Daboll has gone 8-26 over the past 2 seasons, so he probably knows a thing or two about being unprepared.
Shannon Sharpe said
Johnson chimed in with his take. He found it hard to believe that a son of one of the greatest NFL cornerbacks wasn’t prepared for an interview.
Now I am thinking about a son, one of the greatest players of all time, who has been prepared all the time and had the privilege and tutelage of one of the best of all time, for some reason wasn’t prepared for anything when it comes to the game of football?… For Shedeur Sanders, getting the opportunity to play for the Cleveland Browns, his situation is simple as put, is delayed, but it’s not denied.
Johnson quipped
Daboll switched his attention to Ole Miss graduate Jaxson Dart. The Giants traded up in the first round to draft Dart, while Sanders was selected in the fifth round by the Cleveland Browns.

Is Shedeur Sanders starting games for the Cleveland Browns?
Sanders is stuck backing up fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel in Cleveland despite the Browns boasting an abysmal 2-7 record. The Giants are in a worse condition. Daboll benched veteran Russell Wilson after three straight losses, handing Dart the QB1 job.

Dart has done well, completing 62.7% of his passes for 1,417 yards and 10 touchdowns, while also adding 317 rushing yards and 7 rushing touchdowns. However, with little to no help at all, the Giants are 2-8 following the latest defeat in Chicago.
Daboll was on the hot seat from day one, and only a winning record could have saved his job. On Monday, the Giants’ ownership pulled the plug on Daboll by firing the 50-year-old tactician.
Kevin Stefanski‘s path is eerily similar to Daboll’s. The only thing that is keeping him at the helm of the Browns is the owners.
Calls to fire Stefanski gained momentum again after a rough loss to the 2-7 New York Jets on Sunday. Even though he has led the Browns to two playoff appearances, Stefanski boasts an abysmal 42-51 record since taking over. Given the current situation, even putting Sanders in the game might not be enough to save his job.
