Chelsea came back prepared for securing three points. Frank Lampard’s side suffered a major setback in the race for Champions League qualification as they were humbled by Sheffield United on Saturday.
The top four rivals Leicester City and Manchester United both also dropped points later in the weekend. This means the Blues remain third in the premier league after their 1-0 victory over Norwich City with three matches to play.
Chelsea’s strong response to the weekend’s shambolic 3-0 loss against Sheffield came with a win against the last placed Norwich City, who are relegated to the second tier of English football, thanks to former Arsenal man Olivier Giroud.
After a couple of disappointing mishits, Giroud makes the most of a big opportunity for the Blues. Pulisic delivered a gorgeous cross and Giroud brushed off the challenge of Klose to head past Norwich City No 1 Tim Krul – to score the only goal separating the two in the 45+3 minute of the first half.
The result means, the Blues sit tight at third place with 63 points in 36 games just four points ahead of Leicester City and Manchester United. Leicester and United both are with 59 points with a game in hand.
Chelsea will travel away at Old Trafford to play Manchester United to bid for the race to Champions League qualifications in their next premier league fixture.
The relegated Norwich City side will take on Burnley on Saturday before travelling away to Etihad Stadium in their last premier league game this season.
