Chelsea manager Tuchel questions Hudson Odoi’s attitude after 1-1 draw against Southampton

Thomas Tuchel brought on Hudson Odoi at half-time as he took off Tammy Abraham. However, the forward was taken off after failing to meet his manager’s expectations and saw his number called 14 minutes from time.

Hudson Odoi had impressed in his new wing-back role in previous games

“I was not happy with the energy and with the attitude and the counter-pressing so we decided to take him off again as we demand a lot,” Tuchel said. “He was not really in the game and I did not get the feeling I normally get from him.

“It’s not a problem that he makes mistakes or has a bad game or does a miss but we cannot lack energy – 10% or five per cent – it’s not possible. He knows exactly what I demand from him and when he does not reach that level, maybe there is a hard decision like this.”

“It was a hard decision but tomorrow it is forgotten and he has all possibilities to start against Atletico Madrid. “It is always a big week so it is mixed feelings at the moment, it will not be easier to score against Atletico.”

Thomas Tuchel had played Callum Hudson Odoi in a wing-back position in the last 5 games after he took charge. Hudson Odoi seemed to have justified the faith shown in him in the earlier matches.

Hudson Odoi will hope to impress Tuchel in training so that he is in contention for a starting spot against Atletico in the Champions league game next week.
