Chennai based franchise Chennaiyin FC, two-times Champion of the Hero Indian Super League (ISL), has confirmed the signing of experienced goalkeeper Debjit Majumder from SC East Bengal for the upcoming 2021-22 season.
Debjit will be a crucial investment for Chennaiyin, as his addition brings a good combination of youth and experience under the bars, alongside the young and prodigious Vishal Kaith who has proven with his performances last season and cemented his place in their ranks.
Debjit Majumder will be competing with youngster Vishal Kaith for a spot under the bars for Chennaiyin FC
Debjit was one of the key players for SC East Bengal last season in the ISL, as he managed 50 saves and kept two clean sheets in his 15 appearances for the club, earning the title of ‘Savejit’ as he proved his merit with the Red and Gold Brigade.
Debjit was one of the main pillars in Atletico De Kolkata’s (ATK) title-winning season in 2016, and also played an important role between the sticks for Mohun Bagan’s I-League campaigns in 2015 and 2020 as well as in the Federation Cup of 2016. His reflex saves and sense of danger stands out, which guarantees his stature as a top grade goalkeeper.
“I’m really excited to play for Chennaiyin FC and keen to perform and contribute to bring its third title. Vishal (Kaith) is a good goalkeeper and he has been doing well for the last two seasons, so it will be healthy competition in the team.” Debjit expressed his joy on joining Chennaiyin FC.
“We both will look to bring good results for the team. I’m also looking forward to working closely with the youngsters in the club and passing on the experience.” added the shot stopper from Bengal who holds Sandip Nandi as his idol.
“We are happy to bring in Debjit (Majumder) to support Vishal between the sticks. He will also bring a wealth of knowledge and experience into the dressing room given his time at some top clubs in the country,” said Chennaiyin FC co-owner Vita Dani in the official club statement.
Chennaiyin FC are already gearing up for the upcoming 2021-22 season, and have started bolstering their squad depths as they aim for their third Hero ISL title after their triumphs in 2015 and 2017.
