The Premier league defending champions cruised to a 3-0 win over Arsenal. David Luiz had a horror game in the short span that he was on the field. After coming on a substitute in first half, his deflection led to City’s first goal. An error from Luiz gave a penalty to City in second half which resulted in red card for Luiz.

The match was ravaged by injuries as Arsenal had to use two substitutes in the first half itself. In the second half, City youngster Eric Garcia suffered a horrific injury which saw the game paused for 10 minutes. The players were coming after 3 months and the effects were there to be seen.

It was an unhappy return for Arteta at Etihad as his side were clearly the second best. The match started after a minute’s silence was observed and the players took a knee in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement.

The momentum of the match was scuppered with injury breaks as first of them saw Grant Xhaka substituted off. Minutes later, it was Pablo Mari, the Arsenal defender who had to be substituted following a niggle. It was Mari’s first start in Arsenal’s shirt, and the substitution saw David Luiz come on.

City were creating chances and were guilty of missing some good chances. However, it was Luiz who made a mess of De Bruyne’s pass and his deflection came into the path of Sterling. Sterling made no mistake as City led 1-0 after a moment of luck.

The nightmare continued for David Luiz in the second half as he received a red card after dragging down Riyad Mahrez in the penalty box. De Bruyne who was superb throughout the game made no mistake from the spot. Leno denied Gundogan afterwards to save the bushes for City. The worst moment of the game came when Eric Garcia was hurt after being clattered by his own goalkeeper Ederson.

It was no one’s mistake but Garcia was in serious trouble. The treatment on the pitch took quite a long which resulted in 11 minutes of stoppage time. City meanwhile saw Aguero coming on whose rebound was tapped in by Phil Foden after the ball hit the post. It was City’s 3rd goal on the night which rounded off a brilliant performance.

Guardiola’s side were well on the mark and did not look fatigued. Meanwhile, it was same old problems for Arteta’ s men as defensive errors cost them the game. They were nothing better in front of the goal as well. Arsenal failed to have a single shot on target which was the first time since 2017. This was Arsenal’s first loss in 2020 in the league.

Arsenal have some serious work to do if they are to get a European spot in the league table. City’s win means that Liverpool cannot clinch the title at Everton on Sunday. The title will have to be prolonged for a week.  City took time to settle into the game but eventually got into their groove to get a comfortable win. The only positive for Arsenal was Bernd Leno who saved Arsenal from embarrassment.

Next up for City is a game against Burnley on Monday at the same venue. Meanwhile, Arsenal would try and get a win when they visit Brighton on Saturday.
