Novak Djokovic recently sat for an interview with controversial broadcaster Piers Morgan and was asked about a topic that sent shocking waves across the tennis world last year. It’s Jannik Sinner‘s doping scandal, which once again has started to make headlines thanks to the Serb’s statements during the aforementioned interview.

Sinner tested positive for clostebol twice but wasn’t banned by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) as it was a result of contamination. The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) challenged the ruling and kept insisting that a ban of one or two years is necessary to set an example.

But the WADA gave in, entering a case resolution agreement with Sinner’s team, withdrawing their appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). As per the settlement agreement, Sinner was banned for three months, which didn’t affect his Grand Slam participation.

Djokovic doesn’t hold Sinner responsible at all for the accidental contamination but alleged there were “so many red flags” because of the way the World No.1’s case was handled. On November 13, Sinner’s coach Darren Cahill put up a cryptic Instagram story that did not go down well with Djokovic’s fans, who are convinced the Aussie coach’s intention was to censure Djokovic’s opinions.

Opinion is really the lowest form of human knowledge. It requires no accountability, no understanding. The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another’s world.

Djokovic also believes the “cloud” of the doping case will keep following Sinner for the rest of his career, finding it similar to that of his vaccination saga, which saw him being deported, the experience of which traumatized him.

Fans criticize Jannik Sinner’s coach, Darren Cahill, after his possible dig at Novak Djokovic

Jannik Sinner‘s fans accused Novak Djokovic of being jealous of the Italian as he trails 4-6 and has lost his last five previous matches (as well as two Six Kings Slam meetings). They are convinced Nole holds ambiguous opinions regarding the doping ban because Sinner has become a formidable force at present. Djokovic’s fans pointed out that he did say he has empathy for Sinner in that Piers Morgan interview.

Djokovic met Sinner in two official events this year, both in Grand Slam semifinals. The four-time Major champion was the reason behind Djokovic’s exit at the French Open and Wimbledon. Djokovic was last seen in action at the Hellenic Championship, ending the first edition in his favor against Lorenzo Musetti.

Taylor Fritz on the superiority of Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner

Taylor Fritz trails 1-5 against Carlos Alcaraz and 1-4 against Sinner. He is out of the semifinal race in the ongoing ATP Finals following his straight-set defeat to Alex de Minaur in his last round-robin match. Following this, he talked about the need for improvement to challenge the Sinner-Alcaraz dominance.

No, I wouldn’t say we have a favorable landscape for surprises. Before, we had the Big 3, and now we have a Big 2 with Sinner and Alcaraz. I believe I am a much better player than before, but I need to keep progressing to challenge them because to win a major tournament, we assume we will have to beat both, or at least one of them.

Alcaraz has claimed the year-end No. 1 championship thanks to his victory in every round-robin match. The Spaniard went past Musetti, Alex de Minaur, and Fritz. De Minaur also grabbed the semifinal spot by the smallest of margins.

Sinner was the first player from the draw to qualify for the last four. Win or no-win in the final, it won’t affect the position of the year-end championship now.
