Conor McGregor suffered the first knockout loss in his UFC career at the hands of Dustin Poirier at UFC 257, earlier this year. He was knocked out in the second round, after having made a bright start to the fight. Although he was knocked out by a flurry of punches from Dustin, a large part of his defeat was attributed to Conor failing to check Dustin’s calf kicks. Dustin caused severe damage to Conor’s calves, affecting the Irishman’s mobility.

Speaking about Conor McGregor’s future fight plans in an interview with BT Sport, Conor’s coach John Kavanagh revealed that Conor and his team definitely wanted a rematch. He also claimed that they have been working on solving the ‘calf-kick’ conundrum, and sounded pretty confident that they have almost sorted it out.

‘I’m hoping we can get that rematch done in the summer

John Kavanagh was quoted as saying, “No he’s just looking forward to…I’m hoping we can get that rematch done in the summer. I’m not exactly sure. I don’t involve myself in the management side of things, but we want to get that one back. Got to figure out these freaking calf kicks – how to use them and defend them. We’re pretty confident we have that sorted out now and I think he (Conor) looked excellent everywhere else (against Dustin). So, give us a rematch and we have this. We have the rematch I feel!” [H/T FirstSportz]

Both Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier have been open to fighting in the trilogy bout. Once the medical suspension (Conor – 6 month medical suspension) is over, we might get to see the rematch pretty quickly.

Who do you think will win the rematch? Would Conor have figured out the ‘calf-kick’ puzzle?
