Leon Edwards whose match against Belal Muhammad ended in a no-contest recently, was initially scheduled to take on Khamzat Chimaev, before Khamzat pulled out due to COVID-19. While Leon was actively looking for an opponent, before Belal Muhammad took the fight on short notice, number 1 ranked Colby Covington was approached. However, ‘Chaos’ denied the opportunity to take on Leon Edwards, without much thought.
Speaking about this in a recent interview with Submission Radio, Colby Covington revealed why he turned down the Leon Edwards fight. Covington had a rather interesting reason, unlike the usual ‘normie’ reasons.
‘We spent a couple of days together, had a great time together‘
Colby Covington was quoted as saying, “There wasn’t much talk (for the Edwards fight). I was balls deep in Polyana Viana, so to get me off the couch on three weeks notice to fight some Leon (Edwards) guy, it was going to be a price tag. Everybody’s going to have to use their imagination on that one. I’m not claiming to be her boyfriend, but what’s up with titles these days? Why does there have to be a title? Why can’t two adults just have fun together?
He further said, “That’s exactly what we did. We spent a couple of days together, had a great time together. I got to work on my bedroom cardio, keeping world-class championship form, and that’s that. I’ve got nothing but respect for her and Polyana’s a great girl, beautiful girl.”
Colby Covington recently posted a photo with Polyana Viana on Instagram. While a lot wondered if the two were dating, Polyana later clarified that she has a boyfriend and that herself and Colby were just friends.
