On the golden jubilee of Earth Day, young Indian batsman Shubman Gill tries to persuade people to ‘come together and pledge to protect the earth and it’s natural beauty’.
Gill tweeted on his social media, “Today let’s come together and pledge to protect the earth and its natural beauty. Us being responsible will make a difference in protecting our planet. EarthDay2020 #worldEarthDay, “
Earlier in the day, Indian women’s team T20 captain Harmanpreet Kaur also urged everyone to protect and preserve ‘mother earth’.
“We must work together towards preserving our environment and mother earth. This is our home and let’s not allow it to suffer. EarthDay2020,” Harmanpreet tweeted.
The day was contemplated at the UNESCO conference in 1969 and is celebrated globally to give the signal for environment protection, to celebrate the existence of life and nature around the planet. The first Earth Day was celebrated in 1970.
