It’s always better to work the extra mile when taking big measures. Hence. Conor McGregor is going the distance with that extra punch and calling his Irish brethren to arms. This is a Hail Mary effort for the former UFC Champ in his bid to secure an Irish presidency.

In accordance with the prevailing regulations, a candidate is required to obtain nominations from twenty Oireachtas members or four county councils in order to qualify. Conor McGregor claims that this arrangement maintains power in the hands of the political elite and prevents voices like his from directly connecting with the people.

‘The Notorious’ has based his presidential talks on the legs of favoring the Irish working class and not the elites. Hence, after promising the greatest combat sports comeback along with a presidential run, he took to an X spree to voice his thoughts on what to do and how to secure it:

To the esteemed citizens of Ireland and the Irish diaspora, I, Conor McGregor hereby declare my intention to seek the esteemed office of President of Ireland. The current constitutional framework however, presents a significant barrier to democratic participation. The existing regulations mandate that a candidate must secure nominations from either twenty members of the Oireachtas or four county councils to be eligible for the ballot.

He further elaborated:

In light of this, I propose a petition advocating for a modification of the nomination process to allow my name be included on the ballot. I contend that the citizens of Ireland, both at home and abroad, should have the unhindered right to determine the candidatesSIGN MY PETITION NOW TO SAVE IRELAND!

McGregor is already under Garda watch for having (possibly) incited domestic violence and rioting. The UFC fighter has also laid into the Dáil Éireann (House of Representatives of the Oireachtas), that is the main Irish Parliament, for not inclining to the daily man’s needs. He has even touted dissolving the body altogether!

McGregor’s steps can walk into hurdles with legal barriers and with a lack of atypical political backing. Plus, he has made no friends along the way. Even Irish tabloids have dismissed his stern takes on anti-immigration measures. Meanwhile, away from the game since his 2021 TKO leg break, the fighter has made promises that never came to be.

The whole paradigm of why he got so famous has taken a nosedive among his own countrymen, even, with weekly vices, nose-blows, clubbing, chugging pints; basically all but fighting. So, he now applies to the sense of preservation and nationality, and a free flow of political influence from working men and independent candidacies.

UFC Legend theorized on Conor McGregor’s failed 2024 return that angered the fighter

A big hurdle towards piling up more credibility and goodwill in the hedonistic attire that is Conor McGregor, is that he has been away from the game too long. Four years and counting, ‘The Notorious’ is yet to make and keep a UFC return booking.

The Dubliner did almost make a return for the UFC 303 PPV media-kickoffs at the sold-out 3Arena. Globally, ‘Money Mac’ is still the biggest of draws with the 5 biggest pay-per-view outputs, even if they were non-titular! The scope of his return had the whole fight world in a frenzy; however, McGregor incurred a broken toe and had to pull out.

McGregor’s reentering the UFC Anti-Doping database and latest testing pool teases have sparked some renewed sense of hope amongst hardcore netizens. But his yacht-capade exhibition and act of ‘pe*ing in a cup’ should not bolster this much hope at all, per one UFC veteran.

For one, MMA’s ‘Bad Guy’ Chael Sonnen previously postulated that this wasn’t even a real test. With McGregor spelling it out as USADA instead of DFSI, and showing snippets on an undocked yacht, he reserved doubts. Now, given the drug-testing exposition, Sonnen brings out doubts he has harbored that the fighter was ever injured, or was it another drug-related measure?

When he went to Dublin, there’s, there’s….number. Been [Quite] a number of rumors why he pulled out. The leading one that I believe is that he had entered rehab. If you don’t believe that, then you believe the press release they put out, which is he pulled out for a discolored pinky toe that may or may not be broken; [Now] a guy that was so tough he’s got a snapped leg in two and he calls Joe Rogan over for an interview…I have a hard time imagining he’d miss a press conference for a discolored pinky toe.

In his usual unhinged demeanor, McGregor went on a (deleted) tweet-spree and told Sonnen to shut it. The duo has clashed before as well, even on this topic. The fallout from his 2024 cancelled return has left many wondering if they can put their trust behind another return news. Only time will tell if McGregor can get back to even a morsel of his former glory.
