Coronavirus outbreak reaches Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range, as top coach tests positive

As the situation in the country gets worsen due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Dr. Karni Singh Range’s top shooting coach has tested positive for the same. The facility was announced to re-open on the 8th of July and the Olympic core shooting group was supposed to resume practice from the 1st of August.

Although even after the particular coach has tested positive, the facility would remain open, as he only visited the administrative department on one particular occasion on the 24th July.

Sports Authority of India’s official statement

The Sports Authority of India (SAI), in a press release, said, “The woman coach intimated the result of her test to it on Thursday but since she did not come in contact with any of the shooters, the facility will remain open for training. The coach had visited the centre’s administrative department only on July 24, 2020. She did not visit the field of play or interacted with any athlete training at the centre. All actions as per protocol have been taken. The center has been sanitized and training of shooters will be not be affected.”

The core group of 34 shooters had to resume their training and practice for the Tokyo Olympics, to be held in July of 2021, now. Out of those 34, 15 shooters have qualified for the same Olympics. But even accommodating so many shooters, is being done under extremely safe hygiene and safety protocols.

The National Rifles Association of India has appointed High-Performance Manager and Former India shooter Ronak Pandit as the Nodal Officer in charge of the same.
