3 franchises that can sign Ishan Kishan in the IPL 2022 auction

Ishan Kishan

Ishan Kishan is without a doubt, a cricketer with a bright future. Ever since he made his mark as the captain of the Indian U-19 team that finished as runners-up in 2016, the young wicket-keeper has been growing from strength to strength. An explosive batsman who can play any role with the bat right from an opener to a finisher, Kishan is only set to achieve greater things in the future.

Kishan has been one of the key contributors to the Mumbai Indians (MI) franchise’s success in recent times. In the 2020 edition of the tournament that MI won, Kishan scored a whopping 516 runs while playing just 14 out of his side’s 16 matches. It was a truly incredible showing that helped him get a call-up to the national team. On debut for India in their T20I against England, Kishan struck a whirlwind fifty to be named Man of the Match.

However, things went wrong in IPL 2021 as he struggled in the slow conditions of the MA Chidambaram Stadium in his side’s first five matches which led to him being dropped for the next two at Feroz Shah Kotla. Despite the minor setback, it is certain that Kishan will bounce back in style.

Assuming MI don’t retain him in next year’s auction, especially considering that Kishan is now a capped player, these are the three sides who would want to sign him.

Chennai Super Kings don’t have plenty of youngsters in their side and with an eye on the future, it is essential that they begin to invest in youth such as one of their very few youngsters, Ruturaj Gaikwad. Ishan Kishan could be a perfect choice for the same as he is just 22 years old. Further, hailing from Ranchi just like MS Dhoni, Kishan can grow and develop to become one of the best in the world.

If CSK manage to sign Kishan, he could be valuable in the middle order or even as an opener for his side, with his ability to clear the fence at will.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) had a terrific first half of the season till IPL 2021 was suspended. They seemed to have covered all bases and the team looked like a settled unit. However, one area where they were found wanting was the No. 3 slot where they tried out the likes of Rajat Patidar, Washington Sundar and Shahbaz Ahmed but with little success.

Ishan Kishan’s addition here would be invaluable as it would help in perfectly setting the stage for the likes of Glenn Maxwell and AB de Villiers to arrive thanks to the youngster’s explosive hitting.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) had a horror season in IPL 2021 as they could muster just one win out of their first seven matches. The side’s batting just did not come together as a unit and apart from a few quality knocks, the batting was straight-out horrendous.

The Orange Army’s Achilles Heel has always been its middle order and this is exactly why Ishan Kishan could be the perfect signing for them. Kishan can play in the middle order and give the top order the license to bat freely knowing that an explosive batter is available down the order.
