Team India skipper Virat Kohli made a forgettable comeback during the second Test match against New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. After winning the toss, he opted to bat first in a game that was delayed due to the wet outfield.

Indian openers Mayank Agarwal and Shubman Gill provided their side with a great start with their terrific partnership of 80 runs. However, the latter fell to spinner Ajaz Patel after edging the ball straight towards Ross Taylor at the first slip. Following this, Cheteshwar Pujara also got out on a five-ball duck.

However, the hopes were high from Kohli, who came in to bat at number four for the side. After playing three dot balls, the 33-year-old was indulged in a bizarre dismissal on the last ball of the 30th over. He was adjudged out LBW but was quick to challenge the decision of the on-field umpire.

The replays suggested that there could be an inside edge before the ball hit the pads but the third umpire decided to stick with the original decision owing to no conclusive evidence to overturn the on-field umpire’s call. This left the right-handed batter in sheer disappointment and was left stunned while walking back to the pavilion.
