Arguments are bound to happen on the cricket field. Over the years, we have seen many players exchange words on the field and sometimes even a little bit of shoving. In this list of altercations, Shaheen Afridi and Sarfaraz Ahmed are the latest additions.
The two players quarreled after Afridi’s bouncer hit Ahmed on the head in a PSL game. Luckily, Ahmed’s helmet protected him from any major injury. However, after the ball the two players got into a verbal argument, where Afridi insulted the former Pakistan skipper.
Danish Kaneria berates Shaheen Afridi
Afridi, 21, has shown a lot of potential in his early career. But the pace bowler should not forget that Sarfaraz was the one who had his back when Afridi was rising through the ranks.
Former Pakistan player, Danish Kaneria spoke about the incident in an interview. He said:
“Shaheen Afridi should not have reacted (like that). He misbehaved with his ex-captain Sarfaraz Ahmed. When Shaheen Afridi was playing under Sarfaraz, he had a bowling average of 19. Today, under Babar Azam’s captaincy, his average is 30. If you look at his performance, he has dismissed very few batters from the top 5.”
The stats speak for themselves as Afridi’s bowling average has completely dipped since the PAK board announced a change in captaincy.
“Where was his aggression when Williamson scored 200? Sarfaraz was the one who encouraged Shaheen Afridi when he was leading Pakistan. It is so bad to see a youngster misbehaving with a senior player and an ex-captain. Just because Sarfaraz’s stature is not the same in Pakistan cricket now, it doesn’t mean Shaheen Afridi can have a go at a senior like that,” Kaneria further added.
Following this incident, Afridi penned an apology on his Twitter account. But the damage has already been done. Do you support Danish Kaneria’s comments? Feel free to let us know your views in the comments section below.
