Team India defied all odds with an iconic victory of two wickets in the third One Day International (ODI) match against Australia on Sunday. The Mithali Raj-led side soaked all the pressure as the action was down to the ultimate over in a high-intensity game at the Harrup Park, Mackay.

Batting first, the hosts posted a competitive total of 264/9 at the end of their 50 overs. Middle-order batters Beth Mooney (52) and Ashleigh Gardner (67) emerged as the top scores for their side. On the other hand, speedster Jhulan Goswami was India’s pick of the bowlers with her outstanding spell of 10-2-37-2 while Pooja Vastrakar (3/46) also supported her well.

The Indian eves might count themselves unlucky after what happened with the ‘no-ball fiasco’ on the last delivery in the previous game. However, the exact opposite happened in their favour this time as Sneh Rana (30) was out caught and bowled on a delivery off Nicola Carey. However, the umpire ruled it as a no-ball and Rana continued batting in the middle.

Earlier, opener Shafali Verma and Yastika Bhatia had laid the Indian innings’ foundation with their superb knocks of 56 and 64 runs respectively. In the end, Jhulan Goswami held her nerves and smashed a match-winning four over the bowler’s head to register their maiden win of this tour.

Raj’s girls weren’t able to lift the trophy, however, they registered a respectable scoreline of 1-2 in the three-match series. This win also marked their first-ever triumph over the mighty Kangaroos after a staggering streak of 26 ODIs. Moreover, this is the first loss for Australia Women in 50-over cricket since October 29, 2017.

The two sides will now lock horns in the one-off Test match from September 30 onwards at the Metricon Stadium, Queensland.
