Budding speedster Umran Malik has made his mark in the IPL as he proved his mettle in Sunrisers Hyderabad’s final game of the season. Malik bowled a steaming 153kmph delivery to top the chart of the season’s fastest balls. The Jammu and Kashmir seamer showed a glimpse of his potential in his debut game against the Kolkata Knight Riders the other night.

Malik’s stunning delivery at 153 is the fastest bowled by an Indian in the history of the league. Previously, the record was held by Navdeep Saini who had clocked 152.85. Umran Malik is a really exciting talent and it will be interesting to see how the youngster shapes up in times to come. He breached the 150 mark thrice in the over and that too with unsettling ease.

On his IPL debut, Umran Malik clocked two deliveries over 150 kmph with his fastest ball being at 151.03. As a result, he is now the only Indian in the top ten for this season to deliver the fastest balls. During his first match in the tournament, he bowled nine out of the ten fastest balls delivered by SRH bowlers in the current season.

Umran Malik celebrates his maiden IPL wicket

Umran Malik was part of the SRH squad as a net bowler and was included in the side after left-arm quick T Natarajan contracted the COVID-19 virus. Malik impressed the team management with his raw pace in the nets before making his debut as he was included in the side at the expense of veteran quick Sandeep Sharma.

In his very first over of his second IPL game, Malik bagged his maiden wicket in the cash-rich league. The 21-year-old dismissed KS Bharat with a sharp bouncer to open his wicket tally. While it was not the best of balls, Malik was rewarded for the brisk pace he generates with his smooth action and tremendous release technique.

Malik made his T20 debut for Jammu and Kashmir during the 2020-21 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, in January this year. In his T20 debut during J&K vs Railways, he returned with the impressive figures of 3/24. The speed merchant then went on to make his List A debut on 27 February 2021, for Jammu & Kashmir in the 2020–21 Vijay Hazare Trophy.
