The 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to begin with its second phase on September 19, 2021, in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The schedule has been re-structured and the two heavyweights of the tournament – Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI) will lock horns in match 30 from 7:30 PM (onwards) at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai.
The two sides have met earlier as well in this season where the Mumbai-based franchise emerged as winners. Batting first, CSK posted a mammoth total of 218/4 on the board in their quota of 20 overs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi. Faf du Plessis (50), Moeen Ali (58), and Ambati Rayudu (72*) smashed half-centuries while Kieron Pollard was the top wicket-taker with two scalps.
In reply, the MI Paltan was off to a decent start as their openers Quinton de Kock (38) and Rohit Sharma (35), alongside a decent knock from Krunal Pandya (32). However, Pollard’s inning of 87* off 34 deliveries, with 6 fours and 8 sixes, turned out to be a major turnaround for his side. In the end, Mumbai registered a clinical victory of four wickets.
One-each for MI and CSK in the UAE
MI and CSK were up against each other twice in the last season where both sides registered a victory each. The first clash was the season opener where the Super Kings clinched the game by five wickets in which Ambati Rayudu emerged as the ‘Player of the Match’ for his 71-runs knock.
In the second game, Chennai looked completely out of colour as they bundled out for a below-par total of 114 runs. The five-time champions bulldozed the opponents in the run-chase as they finished the game inside the 13th over without losing any wicket.
