IPL 2022 Mega Auction dates revealed! Likely to be a two-day event

According to reports, the BCCI has locked in the IPL 2022 mega auction dates. The much-awaited mega auction is all set to take place in the first week of February. The auction will see two new teams join the heated battle as the best in the business go under the hammer for the 15th season of the cash-rich league.

Earlier, the league featured eight teams fighting it out for the title but things are all set to change this time around. Two new teams representing Lucknow and Ahmedabad will make their debut this season as the governing body look to raise the stakes of one of the best league in the world.

IPL 2022 Mega Auction dates confirmed

While the exact dates for the IPL 2022 mega auction are yet to be chalked down, the governing body is looking to make it a grand affair. Reports further suggested that the mega auction will be a two-day affair much like the last mega auction back in 2008. Bangalore and Hyderabad are the two frontrunners for hosting the IPL 2022 mega auction.

Earlier, the 8 existing teams were allowed to retain a maximum of 4 players from their squad. The teams retained a total of 27 players, out of which there were 8 foreign players and 19 domestic players. The two new teams will be allowed to pick three players from the list of released players and they will be declaring their picks by 25th December.

As per reports, KL Rahul is all set to captain the Lucknow franchise while Shreyas Iyer will be seen leading the Ahmedabad franchise. The Lucknow franchise has already announced Andy Flower as the head coach of the team and former KKR skipper Gautam Gambhir as the mentor.
