Delhi Capitals announced on Sunday morning that their opening batsman, Prithvi Shaw has even discharged from the hospital where he was being treated for typhoid. The official statement by DC read, ‘Delhi Capitals opener Prithvi Shaw has been discharged from the hospital where he was being treated for a bout of typhoid. Shaw has returned to the team hotel where he is currently recuperating, while being monitored by the DC medical team.’
While this is good news for Delhi who’ve really missed Prithvi up top, there is concern if the youngster is still fit enough to play for Delhi just yet. Prithvi Shaw was admitted to the hospital in the beginning of May as his illness got worse. The most recent statement made by Shane Watson was also not very uplifting for the fans as it said they were unsure if Prithvi would recover in time. However, now that Shaw is back on his feet, it is only a matter of time.
Prithvi Shaw starts training as Delhi prepare to face Punjab
Delhi play 2 very crucial games against Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians next. They have to win both to remain string contenders for qualifications in the play-offs. If they lose even one, their fate would be same as KKR and SRH, hoping other teams’ results go their way for them to qualify. The one positive for DC is that they have a better NRR than most teams fighting for the top 4 spot.
Prithvi Shaw has been clinical for Delhi Capitals this season. Up top, formed a deadly combo with David Warner. With 259 runs in 9 games, Shaw has slipped in the Orange cap race. However, he is still crucial for the team to get good starts. The two replacements Mandeep Singh and Srikar Bharat haven’t been able to fill into Shaw’s shoes.
A source from Times of India said that Shaw is likely to be available for Delhi Capitals’ game against Punjab. The player has also had his first training session since returning from the Hospital. However, it seems the fans will have to wait and see if Shaw features Delhi’s last two games of the league stages.
