Team India is playing their first ODI this year against Sri Lanka on Tuesday at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. After India’s playing XI was announced, fans were surprised not to find Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan’s names.

Suryakumar scored his third century against Sri Lanka in the third T20I, helping India secure the series by 2-1. Kishan smacked his maiden double ton last year against Bangladesh.

Kishan not playing in the first ODI was already known, as India skipper Rohit Sharma revealed this in the press conference a day before the first ODI. He chose Shubman Gill as his opening partner and not Kishan. “Gill has got lot of runs in the last few games, so has Ishan. I am not going to take anything from him (Ishan),” Rohit had said in the presser. “But just to be honest and fair to the guys who have done really well before, we need to give those guys enough chances as well before we make that call,” he added.
