Gautam Gambhir was all emotions after Lucknow Super Giants defeated Kolkata Knight Riders on Wednesday, May 10 at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

Gautam’s celebrations suggested how much this victory means to his team and him. He had played with the KKRs and had won two IPL titles captaining them in the past.

KKR stumble despite Rinku Singh’s quickfire

LSG opted to bat first and their openers Quinton de Kock and KL Rahul stayed till the last ball of the innings, creating history by becoming the first team to score 210 runs without losing a wicket.

De Kock smashed 10 sixes and 10 fours to score an unbeaten 140 runs. While played 51 balls to score 68 runs to give support to de Kock.

KKR responded with a dreadful start but slowly Shreyas Iyer and Nitish Rana revived KKR’s innings. But with Iyer, Rana, Sam Billings and Andre Russell-all gone in quick succession, Rinku Singh and Sunil Narine made it looked that KKR will do the difficult task of winning the match for them.

Had not Marcus Stoinis trapped Rinku Singh in the penultimate over, the result of the match might look different. And eventually, KKR lost the game by 2 runs.

Now, with this win, LSG have officially qualified for the playoffs of IPL 2022. They are standing second on the points table with 18 points, first one being Gujarat Titans.
