[Watch] – Hermanpreet Kaur takes a superb diving catch to dismiss Shafali Verma after youngster scores a debut 50
Shafali Verma
Deepti Sharma led Velocity defeated Harmanpreet Kaur’s Supernovas in the Women’s T20 challenge thanks to a superb batting display by Shafali Verma. The 18 year old gave Velocity a superb start in their chase of 150 scoring a blazing 50. However, she eventually succumbed to Supernovas’ Deandra Dottin.
The West Indian fast bowler did all she could to help the team win but the Supernovas eventually lost. Even though Deandra didn’t perform with the bat, she did with the ball taking the all important wicket of Shafali Verma and then of Yastika Bhatia. Velocity eventually achieved the target of 151 in just 18.2 overs thanks to some power hitting by Laura Wolvaardt.

In the 10th over of the game, having just scored her half century, Shafali Verma faced Deandra. The West Indian bowled a good length delivery which Shafali tried to cut but could managed a thick edge and captain Harmanpreet Kaur took a superb diving catch to dismiss the youngster. This was Supernovas’ first defeat after their win against trailblazers.
Velocity have never won the women’s T20 challenge. Supernovas have done it twice while Trailblazers win the tournament in 2020. However, this season the Deepti Sharma led team seems much more in shape and have superb talent at their disposal to challenge for the title. Velocity will play the Trailblazers on Thursday next at the MCA stadium in Pune. A win will conform Velocity’s place in the final. However, if the trailblazers’ secure a win then the 2 teams with the best NRR will play the finals on Saturday.
