Eden Gardens is set to to host the Qualifier 1 and Eliminator of this year’s IPL. The matches are scheduled for 24th May (Qualifier 1) and 25th May (Eliminator). However, owing to heavy rains and thunderstorms recently, the press box of the stadium was completed shattered. Thankfully, the covers were brought on time to the pitch, hence, while the pitch has remained unaffected by the rains, the other parts of the stadium have dealt big blows.
Gujrat Titans, Lucknow Super Giants, Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore are set to compete in the play-offs of the 15th edition of the IPL. While Gujrat and Rajasthan compete in qualifier 1, RCB and LSG will play the eliminator. The winner of the eliminator will play the loser of the Qualifier 1 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Gujrat. The finals of the IPL will also be held there.
Light Rain predicted at Eden Gardens on the evening of Qualifier 1 between RR and GT
According to the whether reports, there is light rain predicted for the evening of 24th May, when the Qualifier 1 between Rajasthan and Gujrat is scheduled. Hence, there are doubts whether the game would go through on that day or not. Even Eden Gardens suffered some other damages during the rain storm last night.
Apart from the press box being completely shattered, some of the advertising hoardings were damaged. A portion of the ground cover came off, while some advertising-related work was also affected. According to a report by The Telegraph, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly quickly visited the Eden Gardens in evening. The BCCI president has since conformed that the stadium will be repaired before the Qualifier 1 on 24th May.
