Tendulkar has shared the dressing room with Ganguly for many years. But he met him for the first time during their Under-15 camps in Indore. “He used to use very heavy bats then and we spent a month in the camp together training and you could see that he was a special player.”

Ponting and Tendulkar were fierce rivals on the field. But the former Aussie captain just wanted to see Tendulkar bat in the nets when India toured Australia. “I heard about him 88/89 not sure when Sachin actually debuted. India was touring Australia. And I said to the head coach Rod Marsh at the time I want to be on the ground when India was training. I want to sit at the back of the net and watch Sachin bat,” said Ponting.

Virat Kohli, in a YouTube show Breakfast with Champions, narrated how he was tricked by Yuvraj Singh, Irfan Pathan, Munaf Patel, and Harbhajan Singh. Kohli was told that the rookie cricketers have to touch Tendulkar’s feet to pay him respect. Kohli took that seriously and went on to touch Tendulkar’s feet. It was only after interacting with him that Kohli found out they made a fool of him. Kohli is now widely referred to as Tendulkar’s successor.

And the current Indian captain Rohit Sharma recalled the moment he met Tendulkar for the first time in the book ‘Sachin@50’ by Boria Majumdar. Rohit revealed that as he batted under the watchful eyes of Tendulkar in nets at the Cricket Club of India (CCI), it made him nervous.
