India’s top all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja might not be seen in action during the upcoming Test series against South Africa. Jadeja, who missed out on the second and last red-ball home game against New Zealand, has a ligament tear. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had confirmed this ahead of the Mumbai Test earlier this month.

“All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja suffered a right forearm injury during the 1st Test match in Kanpur. After undergoing scans, he was diagnosed with a swelling on his forearm. He has been advised rest and is thus ruled out of the 2nd Test in Mumbai,” the release stated.

Meanwhile, a recent media report in The Indian Express has stated that Axar Patel, Shubman Gill and Ishant Sharma are also likely to miss the team bus owing to their respective injuries. As per TIE, Patel has a stress fracture which takes a minimum of six weeks to heal.

“At least four players – Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Shubman Gill and Ishant Sharma – are doubtful for the trip as they will take some months to be completely fit.”

This implies that the All India Senior Selection Committee headed by former cricketer Chetan Sharma might go with Shahbaz Nadeem, who is currently with India A for the three four-day games.
