Reports suggest that Rishabh Pant is the Indian player who has tested positive for COVID-19. Pant has been home quarantined at his relatives’ place at present and is likely to join the tour party in Durham later. He experienced a sore throat, which led to a Covid test and it returned positive.
The Indian team was on a 20-days break following the World Test Championship and will be reuniting soon for the five game Test series against England. As of now, no other player has shown any symptoms of infection.
Indian team to return to bio bubble on Thursday
The Indian squad sans the player will return to bio-bubble in Durham on Thursday. The teammates and support staff, who came in contact with the player, were kept in isolation for three days and they have completed their isolation period. Earlier, multiple members of the English cricket team too had contracted COVID-19 forcing them to field a second-string team against Pakistan.
On Wednesday, chief selector Chetan Sharma met BCCI president Sourav Ganguly in Kolkata, but both were tight-lipped about what transpired in the meeting. One can only hope that no further cases of the deadly virus arise in the side with the Test series and IPL on the line.
