Shaheen Afridi has given Pakistan a great start in the second semifinal of the T20 World Cup 2021. Put in to bat first, the Men in Green put up a scintillating show with the bat to muster a challenging total of 176. Mohammed Rizwan and Fakhar Zaman notched up half-centuries to help Pakistan to a score of 176.
The Australian bowlers struggled to get into a rhythm as the Pakistan batters dictated terms. Following the powerplay, the Aussies assumed command only for a brief period before Rizwan and Zaman went all out. Despite their finishers, Asif Ali and Shoaib Mallik failing Pakistan notched up an above-par total.
Shaheen Afridi makes the new ball talk
Once again, Shaheen Afridi did the trick for Pakistan with the new ball. The budding pacer came up with a peach to dismiss Australia skipper Aaron Finch. Finch was caught dead in front of the stumps against a classic inswinger from Afridi. The Kangaroos have got off to a horrible start to this run chase.
Shaheen Afridi produced two brilliant deliveries to follow up the wicket. The very next ball, the speedster had Mitchell Marsh almost walking only for the decision to in favour of the umpire’s call. The penultimate delivery of an eventful first over saw Afridi almost bowl Marsh out as his delivery went agonisingly close to the Aussie’s off stump.
Afridi has scalped six wickets in five matches for Pakistan in the T20 World Cup as he came into the semifinal, bowling at a fairly impressive economy rate of 6.70. Led by the youngster, the Pakistani pace battery has been phenomenal having scalped 19 wickets in five games.
