Tamil Nadu defended the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy with a stunning win over Karnataka in the final. Shahrukh Khan held his nerves to help his side get over their rivals with a gigantic hit on the final ball of the encounter. With the title, Tamil Nadu becomes the most successful team in the tournament with three titles to their name.

Chasing a 151 run target, Tamil Nadu got off to a flyer with Hari Nishaanth and N Jagadeesan giving their team the perfect start. It was in the middle overs that the Vijay Shankar led team lost its way only for a quickfire cameo from Shahrukh Khan to get things together for the Men in Yellow.

It was down to the young batsman Shahrukh Khan with five runs needed off the last ball. Shahrukh faced the experienced Prateek Jain. And it was the youngster who thrived as he dispatched Jain, Karanataka’s most successful bowler of the game, for a huge six. The young Tamil Nadu batter was adjudged the Man of the Match for his 33 crucial runs off just 15 balls.

Among others, Sai Kishore starred for Tamil Nadu with the ball as he scalped three wickets to cap off a stunning season for him. For Karnataka, KC Cariappa picked up two wickets to go with Jain’s three-wicket haul. But it wasn’t enough at the end of the day for the two-time champions.
