The Pakistan team has had its share of bizarre run-outs in the past and Shoaib Malik has added yet another comical chapter to it. In the first T20I between Pakistan and Bangladesh, Malik was found short of his crease and was run out in one of the most bizarre ways the sport of cricket has ever seen.
Following a dominant show in the recently concluded T20 World Cup, Pakistan were in grave trouble against Bangladesh. The Babar Azam led side lost three wickets on merely 23 as they made a mess out of a minimal total of 128. It was at this crucial juncture that Shoaib Malik walked into the middle.
Bangladesh get rid of Shoaib Malik in a bizarre run out
While much was expected from the veteran Shoaib Malik, he was dismissed for a duck in a very bizarre manner. Having faced just three balls, Malik was caught napping at the strikers’ end. The Pakistani all-rounder attempted a shot off a length ball in the sixth over only to underedge it to the wicketkeeper.
Seemingly unaware that he was outside the crease, Malik shadow-played putting the bat in the third man’s direction. Bangladesh wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan seized the opportunity and aimed a direct hit to run Malik out. As the hosts jumped in joy, Malik started off on the long walk back.
Fortunately, Pakistan managed to win the game thanks to a gritty innings from Fakhar Zaman and Khushdil Shah. Shadab Khan played a brisk cameo to take Pakistan home with four balls to spare. Despite the win, netizens didn’t back off and trolled Malik for the unfortunate event.
