“Shreyas Iyer or Suryakumar Yadav” – Ajinkya Rahane reveals who will make Test debut against NZ in Kanpur

The Indian team is set to play against New Zealand in the two-match Test series, beginning from November 25 in Kanpur. Meanwhile, key opening batter KL Rahul has been ruled out due to an injury and Suryakumar Yadav has replaced him in the side.

In Rahul’s absence, Mayank Agarwal and Shubman Gill will commence the innings with the bat for the hosts. On the other hand, skipper Ajinkya Rahane has confirmed that Shreyas Iyer is set to make his Test debut in the middle-order.

Shreyas Iyer is going to make his debut,” Rahane said at a press conference on the eve of the Kanpur Test.

“See, it is a big blow. KL Rahul is not available for these two Test matches, he did really well in England. He was in good form and played really well. Obviously, we will miss him but we have guys who can fill that slot, guys who did well for us in the past. Not too worried about the opening slot,” he stated on KL’s injury.

“Not concerned about my form” – Rahane

Ajinkya Rahane has not been in the best of his batting forms for the last few years. Notably, the 33-year-old smashed his previous Test ton at the Melbourne Test back in December last year.

However, the right-hander has asserted he’s not worried about big runs as playing small match-winning knocks are also crucial for the side. The stand-in skipper said:

“I am not concerned about my form, it’s not necessary to make a hundred – I always think about the team, even 50 or 60 is important for the team cause.”
