Wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik has named his best playing XI of the ongoing 2021 ICC T20 World Cup at the end of group stage matches. The clash between India and Namibia on Monday marked the end of the league games of the tournament.
The cricketer-turned-commentator didn’t pick the likes of Indian greats such as Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and KL Rahul. Speedster Jasprit Bumrah emerged as the sole Indian player in Karthik’s team of the WC.
Starting from the opening pair, DK picked Babar Azam and Jos Buttler, followed by Charith Asalanka and Rassie van der Dussen as middle-order batters. He named as many as three all-rounders in the form of Shakib al Hasan, Moeen Ali, and Wanindu Hasaranga. The bowling attack consisted of Adam Zampa, Trent Boult, Jasprit Bumrah and Shaheen Shah Afridi.

The 36-year-old revealed that he couldn’t pick Eoin Morgan as the captain of his WC team and hence, he chose Pakistan’s Babar Azam for this role.
“Babar Azam, Jos Buttler, Charith Asalanka, Rassie van der Dussen, Shakib al Hasan, Moeen Ali, Wanindu Hasaranga, Adam Zampa, Trent Boult, Jasprit Bumrah and Shaheen Afridi. Would have ideally liked Morgan as he has been the best captain for me, but has not done enough as a batter. So, I went for Azam. Van der Dussen is a very clever batsman,” Karthik said on Cricbuzz.
“The tournament has been dominated by bowlers. So, you can see I have picked 7 proper bowlers. If Australia is in the semi-final, a huge hand has to go to Zampa. Afridi has looked a class apart from the rest,” he added.
