The stage is all set for the knockout games of the 2021 ICC T20 World Cup. Meanwhile, South Africa cricketer Faf du Plessis has stated that Pakistan are the favourites to lift the trophy.
Notably, the ‘Men in Green’ have earlier also won the title during the 2009 edition under the leadership of Shahid Afridi. The right-handed batter also leapt praises for the Proteas on their performance in the ongoing ICC tournament. He said that winning four out of five games in the Super 12 stage is a phenomenal achievement for Temba Bavuma and Co.
“Pakistan is the favourite to win it but I hope New Zealand can go all the way. They [New Zealand] have come so close to bagging an ICC trophy in recent years so I do hope they can win it.
Winning four out of five games is a big achievement and the team should feel proud of their efforts. The bowling unit was exceptional and it won’t be wrong to say that it was one of the best attacks of the tournament,” said Faf du Plessis in an interview with a local channel.
“It’s not my decision to make” – Du Plessis on exclusion from SA’s WC squad
The flamboyant top-order batter also talked about his omission from the national squad for the 2021 T20 World Cup in the UAE. Faf reckoned that he knew that he was not in consideration to be picked despite a tremendous IPL season for Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
“It is not my decision to make but I had an idea that I am not in consideration for the T20 World Cup. I expected it when I wasn’t selected for the Sri Lankan tour. My expectations were that I wasn’t going to go to the World Cup, even though my performances in the IPL were exceptional,” he signed off.
