Team India skipper Virat Kohli hit out hard at all social media users who trolled and abused speedster Mohammed Shami, following the team’s loss to arch-rivals Pakistan in the ongoing 2021 ICC T20 World Cup.

Shami, who had a poor outing during India’s maiden game against Pak, gave away 43 runs in the 3.5 wicket-less overs. Later, he was targeted and underwent massive trolling and abuse on his religion by a section of fans on the internet.

Reacting to this, Kohli went on to rightly call such trollers as “bunch of spineless people” who have done the “most pathetic thing” a person can do.

“There is a good reason why we are playing on the field and not some bunch of spineless people on social media that have no courage to actually speak to any individual in person.

“This is the lowest level of the human form, attacking someone over religion is the most pathetic thing a human being can do,” Virat Kohli said during a press conference ahead of the all-important match against New Zealand.

Virat Kohli further went on to shed light on Shami’s contribution to the growth of Indian cricket across formats. The 33-year-old also thanked the “true” fans of the national side who stood by the ‘Men in Blue’ over the years.

“So as I said, people take out their frustration because they obviously have no understanding of what we do as individuals they have no understanding of how much effort we put on the field they’ve no understanding of the fact that someone like Mohammed Shami has won India many number of matches in the last few years,” he highlighted.

“Never thought of discriminating based on religion. That is a very sacred thing. Our brotherhood and friendship can’t be shaken… and these things can’t infiltrate. I give credit to people who understand us,” the skipper stated.
