Team India will be playing two series simultaneously in July 2021. The first string players will engage in a Test series against England, while the second squad will travel to Sri Lanka to play white-ball format.
The series against Sri Lanka gives the selectors to give young talents some experience, and the selectors accepted this opportunity with both arms. 5 uncapped players will travel to Lanka and don the blue jersey for the first time in their careers.
The limited over series will feature three ODIs and as many T20Isn. Moreover, Shikhar Dhawan will captain the side in the absence of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
Youngsters of team Indian on getting an opportunity to represent their nation
The five uncapped players, who will be making their debut in less than a month are Chetan Sakariya, Nitish Rana, Devdutt Padikkal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Krishnappa Gowtham.
Ahead of leaving for the tour, the players shared their views on getting a chance to play for Team India.
“Since the time I have been out of the room, have been looking at myself wearing the jersey. I am very excited as this is my first call-up to the national squad. Players have become quite used to the quarantine. Feels good to have met with everyone,” said Chetan Sakariya.
While his teammate Nitish Rana added, “First seven days I was waiting to meet my teammates and wear the jersey. It was a bit tough to wait every minute. It felt like each hour was passing like a year. Have met with new people, learned new things. Looking forward to the intense workout and doing well in the series.”
