Former Indian U-19 captain Unmukt Chand’s cricket career has been nothing less than a rollercoaster ride. The swashbuckling batsman was touted as the next big thing in Indian cricket after he led India to their third Under-19 World Cup title. However, things didn’t go as per the plan for the 28-year-old.
Despite churning out impressive performances in the domestic circuit, Unmukt wasn’t handed a chance to represent the Men in Blue at the highest level. After facing rejection in the Indian cricket fraternity for many years, the right-hander finally decided to reconstruct his cricket career in the USA.
Unmukt shifted his base to the US earlier in August 2021 by signing a three-year deal to play in the Minor League Cricket. The former U-19 skipper is plying his trade for Silicon Valley Strikers in the local tournament. Playing his first match of the league, Unmukt Chand announced himself in style.
Unmukt’s Silicon Valley Strikers were up against Golden State Grizzlies in a 20-over match on Sunday at Morgan Hill. The game saw the Grizzlies batting first and delivering an underwhelming performance. The team ended up with just 131 runs on the scoreboard in their 20 overs.

In the second innings, Strikers held their nerves to successfully complete the run chase. Chand, who opened the innings, was the wrecker-in-chief for his team as he hammered a fifty. The right-hander remained not out and played a sensible knock of 56 runs off 57 balls to help Strikers chase the total within 19 overs.
Unmukt took to his official Twitter handle to celebrate his half-century. Posting a 20-second clip from the match, the swashbuckling batsman labeled his knock as his first official 50 on US soil. “First official 50 on US soil,” the 28-year-old while posting the clip.
The Minor Cricket League can act as a turning point in Unmukt’s career. The batsman needs to deliver a series of impressive performances if he wishes to find a place in the USA’s national cricket team.
