Only a few months remain until the start of the much-awaited T20 World Cup. As the teams prepare to win the cup, the debates and preparations are in full swing. Many of the world’s best teams will be fighting for the prestigious trophy.

Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram also joined this discussion. When asked on who he thinks would win the T20 World Cup, Wasim Akram said that four nations are capable of winning the ICC tournament, but India are the frontrunners.

Apart from India, Akram has named the defending champions West Indies, former champions, and the current No. 1 rated side England and mighty New Zealand as probable title contenders.

“I suppose, between the main teams, India appear favorites. They play the fearless brand of T20 cricket. England is also at the top of the ladder. I think New Zealand too. And you never know about the West Indies. If their main players are in, they have a tendency to scare,” said Wasim Akram on ARY news.

Wasim Akram, when questioned about Pakistan’s prospects of repeating their 2009 success, remarked that though he wants his country to succeed, he believes Pakistan would have to improve their team composition in order to win the T20 World Cup.

He went on to say that the middle-order is a problematic issue for Pakistan and that they must find a solution to strengthen that area in order to have the best chance of winning the tournament.

“Pakistan needs to work on their team combination. Obviously, being a Pakistani, I would want Pakistan to win the World Cup. That will be a dream come true for all of us, especially the young captain, and if they need to improve their combination, find the best XI, they can fight. The problem of No. 5 and No. 6 needs to be solved,” added Wasim Akram.

The 2021 T20 World Cup would be the first T20 World Cup in over five years. The T20 World Cup will return to India this year as planned, but those arrangements may alter. With India fighting the Covid-19 battle, the tournament might be shifted to the UAE.
